What Todd MacFarlane’s Venom Comments Say About Sony’s Movies
MacFarlane also confirm on the nose why Sony made Venom a grinder . It was an attempt to broaden out the audience and the box role appeal :

There ’s no deny the winner of the originalVenom , or the spirit of fun the dealership cover , but the lack of Spider - Man forced Venom into a more heroic position than was optimal . Though , as MacFarlane says , Marvel evolved the eccentric into an anti - hero in the comics , his starting point was as a scoundrel opposite Spider - Man , andbecause of the separation of the film universe , we were forced to skip that important moral force entirely .
Modern Hollywood has show an often frustrating compulsion with humanizing villains - which it ’s difficult not to trace back to the Star Wars prequel trilogy - and making spoiled guys relatable comes at a cost . turkey : Folie à Deuxmight well be go out by some as the zenith of that trend - and will to the motivation to interchange it - but I ca n’t help oneself but sense we ’ll continue to see it for a while .
