Venom: The Last Dance

month afterVenom : The Last DancebroughtTom Hardy ’s Venom franchiseto a close , the iconicMarvelcharacter ’s carbon monoxide - Almighty has offer his thoughts on how he would have approached the movies differently .

Talking toCBR , Todd MacFarlane shared his thoughts on how Hardy ’s edition of the character develop away from his original vision for the character :

" … If you ’re enquire the basic question , would I have drop a line and directed exactly like they did ? Of course not , right ? … To me , Venom ’s not a good guy . Like in my brainiac . They turn Venom into form of a good guy cable after I leave , Marvel , right ? So in my brain … he was a baddie , and then I left … It was when I had my back turn that all of a sudden , I was like , ' What do you talk about ? ' Venom ’s a well guy . And so I imagine my tendencies are always to go sort of dingy and serious . "

What Todd MacFarlane’s Venom Comments Say About Sony’s Movies

MacFarlane also confirm on the nose why Sony made Venom a grinder . It was an attempt to broaden out the audience and the box role appeal :

" I would have Venom … would have been an roentgen rated movie . if they had said , ' Todd , putting you in cathexis . ' But nobody ask . So that ’s okay . Yeah , they endeavor to make them very relatable … Everybody has a business and they ’re trying to do the best they can [ with ] their businesses , and they want to have as wide an audience as potential , right ? "

The co - Lord also talked about how his other most famous theatrical role , Spawn , lent to benighted adaptation loosely , and you get a sense of what a Venom dealership in his image might have looked like :

" I just consider , because of the nature of my fictitious character Spawn , I opine the vast absolute majority of masses are adult and want something grownup , like , yeah , you know . And so I ’m not trying to sell toy or T - shirts or hats . I ’m just , I want to do a cool motion-picture show and so , but other public companies have different docket , so that ’s okay . It ’s their property . They get to do what they see fit , just like I wake up every day and do what I think is best for my party . And sometimes you ’re ripe and sometimes you wo n’t . "

Our Take On Todd MacFarlane’s Venom Movie Comments

There ’s no deny the winner of the originalVenom , or the spirit of fun the dealership cover , but the lack of Spider - Man forced Venom into a more heroic position than was optimal . Though , as MacFarlane says , Marvel evolved the eccentric into an anti - hero in the comics , his starting point was as a scoundrel opposite Spider - Man , andbecause of the separation of the film universe , we were forced to skip that important moral force entirely .

Modern Hollywood has show an often frustrating compulsion with humanizing villains - which it ’s difficult not to trace back to the Star Wars prequel trilogy - and making spoiled guys relatable comes at a cost . turkey : Folie à Deuxmight well be go out by some as the zenith of that trend - and will to the motivation to interchange it - but I ca n’t help oneself but sense we ’ll continue to see it for a while . What I have it away for certain is that the next time I see Venom , ideally in the MCU , I want to see a villainous symbiote ( and all it would take it a different , more morally corrupt host ) . But then again , thearrival of Knull inVenom : The Last Dance , and the suggestion of a symbiote war makes even that feel unlikely .
