The Defenders
The Punisherstar Jon Bernthal says the coming series will have very few connecter to Marvel Netflix shows that preceded it . Now thatThe Defendershas finally brought together the titular superheroes fromDaredevil , Jessica Jones , Luke CageandIron Fist , buff are started to get pumped up for the debut of The Punisher solo serial following the graphic symbol ’s blistering entry inDaredevilseason 2 .
SinceDaredevilkicked the sprawlingDefendersstoryline in 2015 , it ’s been entrancing for fans to see just how the creators behind each of the serial haveweaved character in and out of show – whether it be the recurring bearing of Claire Temple ( Rosario Dawson , who has appeared in every Marvel Netflix series to escort ) , or merely off - the - handcuff references to the show ’s principal part .
After each establishing their own narrative in their various solo series ( Daredevilwas given the luxury of have two season to build up the write up of Charlie Cox ’s Matt Murdock),The Defendersfinally confronted the criminal underworld of the Hand , yet Frank Castle ( Bernthal ) , aka The Punisher , was nowhere to be find .
And while The Punisher was a key part in the second season ofDaredevil , Bernthal has just dropped the surprising revealing that the show wo n’t needfully be part of the connective tissue that holds The Defenders together , but rather is off doing his own matter .
Answering a question from a fan onEW , Bernthal explained why The Punisher is for all purpose and purposes , going unaccompanied . The actor explain the logical thinking :
" We are stripping down every supernatural element . This show is different . It looks different . Frank is a fiber rooted in the most introductory human emotions … He ’s a comic - book role , but he does n’t flee , he does n’t have X - ray vision . He ’s an unbelievably skilled soldier who ’s been very , very raging and very , very wounded . In other words : The Punisher ’s story will sport zero ninjas , zero members of the Hand , and decidedly zero flying lizard . "
For one , it makes sensation that there ’s no Defenders involvement since for at least a portion of the series , The Punisher ’s story willgo back to Castle ’s military daysin flashback , long before he encountered the Devil of Hell ’s Kitchen .
As for despoil the supernatural element , anyone familiar withThe Punishershouldn’t be surprised with that reveal since the character reference does n’t have superpowers . So , if it ’s the show ’s finish to differentiate itself from those that do have superhuman abilities , it shit sense that Jessica Jones ( Krysten Ritter ) , Luke Cage ( Mike Colter ) and Danny Rand , aka The Iron Fist ( Finn Jones ) , would n’t be included .
That ’s no much the case with Daredevil though , since his " power , " so to speak , were an get science . At the very least , Karen Page ( Deborah Ann Woll ) will be a recurring character , so there ’s at least one temerarious connection that make believe mother wit in the scope ofThe Punisher’sreal - universe survey .
As for Matt Murdock himself turning up , fans should n’t be holding their collective breathing spell . founder the uncertain fate of Matt at the remnant ofThe Defenders(at least to the other squad members and those close to him ) , it would seem odd for the reference to re - emerge in a show that would n’t call for his counterparts .
Of naturally , there are secrets no doubt buried in the episodes ofThe Punisherthat lover wo n’t find out until the show drops ( it ’s await sometime later this year ) , so it could be that Bernthal ’s solvent could be a misdirect in some form of way to avoid revealing any spoilers . If that ’s not the character , at the very least Claire could re - go forth to keep her Marvel Netflix bar alive , or good pillowcase scenario , it could introduce fans to yetanother superhero from the Marvel Universe .
