Sigourney Weaver may play a baddie inThe Defenders , but despite her case ’s sinister propensity , she ’s plain quite cultured , too . contingent about Weaver ’s spell as the nefarious Alexandra have been slow trickling outsince January , but even as the waiver date of Marvel ’s vainglorious TV squad - up withdraw closer , it still persist a mostly enigmatic role .
She has no history in the original comics , and showrunner Marco Ramirez has observe her narrative tightly under wraps , offering only that she’s“a very herculean forcein New York City”and“sophisticated , intellectual , [ and ] grave . ”Whatisknown is that she ’s a ruthless , almighty criminal menacing enough to forceDaredevil , Luke Cage , Iron Fist , andJessica Jonesto work together .
But in an interview withNerdist , Weaver read Alexandra is more complex than her limited description suggests . TheAlienveteran note that she ’s played villains in the past , but that her part always have something deep to them , and the same applies toThe Defenders . As she told the outlet :
" To them , it always comes out of something . They ca n’t see things the way the normal person picture them , they ’re still trying to make out something for themselves . "
Alexandra , in special , is determine asunder by her patent love for life and art . Weaver continue :
“ I do think she ’s a renaissance fair sex . I conceive yes , she has to do these things but she really … she have it off life , she loves finish . It ’s one of the most interesting adult female characters I ’ve ever study . ”
With so little to go off of , it ’s hard to touch base that to her storyline . The best analytic thinking can be made with an interviewDefenderscostume designer Stephanie Maslansky gave earlier this calendar month , in which she suggest thatAlexandra may be The Hand ’s leader . She explained that the character ’s wardrobe had " alot of liveliness or lives " to it , which set off speculation that she could have been repair from the dead , since The Hand possesses the magnate to do so . And if you ’ve run a lot of lives , it makes sense that you ’d gain an appreciation for many cultures .
However , hypothesis have also been float around that Alexandra may release out to be a gender - flipped reading of Alexander Bont , a rival Kingpin to Wilson Fisk ( Vincent D’Onofrio ) , who clashes with the Hand and Madame Gao . That would n’t jive with Alexandra ’s want of comic book ties , though that could be an intentional mismanagement . Alas , it does n’t seem like further details will be made available anytime before long , so untilThe Defenderslands later this summer , who Alexandra really is is anyone ’s supposition .
