Like the MCU , the Marvel universe on Netflix had incredible interconnectivity , but that did n’t stopThe Defenderssaga from wasting its best crossover set - up . unfreeze in 2017 as the apogee of “ Phase 1 ” of the Marvel Netflix shows , The Defendersbrought together Daredevil , Jessica Jones , Luke Cage , and Iron Fist into a single miniseries in which The Hand was the great enemy . In addition to all the hero , many of the supporting lineament from each show were also part of the crossover consequence .
Outside of the Hero , the most crucial theatrical role in whatDisney+ is now callingThe Defenderssaga was Claire Temple . present inDaredevilseason 1 , instalment 2 , the nursemaid who would often run up Matt Murdock became a perpetual presence in the shows of that universe and was always ready to assist the heroes . Except forThe Punisher , Claire was part of every Marvel Netflix serial and interacted with the four defender at some point in their stories .

Many have said that Claire Temple was the Nick Fury of theDefendersuniverse . However , whenThe Defenderscrossover event finally happened , Claire being part of the stories of Matt Murdock , Jessica Jones , Luke Cage , and Danny Rand had no real effect on the show . Rather than meeting through Claire , the Defenders end up bumping into each other for virginal luck and hand convenience . After so much setup with Claire appearing in all the foursolo serial set beforeThe protector , her role in the crossover serial felt like a huge miss opportunity . It would have been a much more inspired choice if Claire had linked the four heroes , whether in their civilian or vigilante lives . Claire is obviously no Nick Fury in the sense that she would n’t be actively judge to form a superhero team , but she knew the Defenders on such an intimate level that serving as a link between them would n’t have felt force .
Rather than treat Claire as the graphic symbol coarse to all four taradiddle , The Defendersseems to have chosen to focus more on her role in Luke Cage ’s narration . The show sees Claire pose Luke out of prison house , and much of how she interacts with the Hand ’s overall account comes from Luke Cage ’s investigation of a local kid ’s death . It ca n’t be enunciate that Claire was n’t part of the action at law — the character was in the last face-off againstthe nefarious formation known as the Hand — butThe Defenderslacked Claire ’s much - need advice for New York ’s heroes . In term of both pee-pee the character Department of Justice and paying off all the old frame-up , Claire ’s role in Defenders did n’t live up to expectations . This was also a symptom of a larger trouble in the Marvel Netflix cosmos with Claire , who seemed to have no end end in terms of character development . That ’s why , when Rosario Dawson chose not to return forDaredevilseason 3 , many were left wondering what Claire ’s fate had been .
Claire did n’t have to go room access to door gathering the Defenders as Nick Fury did with the Avengers , but the show could have found a way to integrate the estimation that she was the only common element in the stories of those four heroes .
