However , Michael stamp out off two cardinal characters was just shocking storytelling . It was a eddy , but not one that was based on the strange timelines or incomprehensible outlandishness of the island . It was one of the heroes of the show make a shocking decision based on complex motivations . The cliffhanger did n’t come from what a new mystery meant for the narrative , but rather what would be the side effect of Michael ’s action and how much further he would go .

The show seemed to experience that these aspects would make it all the more emotional when Libby go in such a tragic way . In fact , the only reason she was in the hatching was to get supplies for a picnic engagement with Hurley . It was the end of Libby that made it a harrowing decisiveness for Michael .
