Ever since Nintendo announced its sequel toThe Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild , the cyberspace has been awash with possibility , and some have start lately to propose that the island floating above theKingdom of Hyrule inBreath of the Wild 2are , in fact , the Lands of the Spirits . While some possibility are belike more far - fetched than others , there are some that actually give one pause for opinion , and the idea of these island being a home for spirits is one that bears a closer look .

[ word of advice - Spoilers for Breath of the Wild below . ]

There have been multiple spirit present throughout theLegend of Zeldaseries . InBreath of the Wild , this includes the Great Fairies , Koroks , and Malanya , the knight god . Unlike Link , the average Hylian is unable to see these spirits . They are only seeable to young kid and some choose adults , which is most likely to do with the pureness of any person ’s psyche .

If thespirits throughoutBreath of the Wildcan only be seen by a small selection who have been specifically chosen to be allow to see them , this could explain why the lands in the sky have not been seen before . If the island are theirs , and not a part of the Kingdom of Hyrule in the traditional sense , the spirit might not yet have permitted them to be visible . InSkyward Sword , players travel to the Silent Realms , and much like these float islands   could turn out to be , Link can only confabulate these realms thanks to the permission of the goddess Hylia . Without this permission , these region are inaccessible . Even Fi can not join Link in theSilent Realms ofSkyward Sword , as the “ trail calls out to[Link’s]mind alone . ”

Breath Of The Wild: Spirits In The Sky

There is in reality already a hint inBreath of the Wildthat , with retrospect , does allude to the island in the sky being a part of a jet world , or realm , above Hyrule . The three apparitional dragons - Farosh , Dinraal , and Naydra – all disappear into portals in the sky at the conclusion of their usual cycles over the kingdom . This idea that above the cloud lies a out of sight dimension that is accessible to only the spirits of Hyrule would explain where the dragons go .

There is also the comportment of the lotus blossom podium that can be seen on the floating islands above Hyrule in the mostrecentBreath of the Wild 2teaser . These too lot parallels to the Spirt Realms inSkyward Sword , where Link is presented a lotus flower at the end of each test . The lotus appear to represent a more spiritual and otherworldly side to the extensive lore of Hyrule .

Of course , until fan see more prescribed news aboutBreath of the Wild ’s subsequence from Nintendo , this hypothesis is just that : a theory . However , it does make one wonder who Link could potentially meet on these island if they are in fact part of the Land of Spirits . With the four champions and King Rhoam all disappear ethereally at theend ofBreath of the Wild , there is every fortune that they have go somewhere within this spectral realm themselves , giving Nintendo the chance to perhaps receive them back again inBOTW2 .
