The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

The Lord of the Rings : The Rings of PowerchroniclesMiddle - earth ’s Second Agefight between good and evil , and the show ’s scoundrel keep that conflict interesting — though some raise more compelling than others . While Sauron isThe Lord of the Rings’main villain on the heels ofMorgoth ’s First Age defeat , there are a turn of antagonists precede over the Prime Video series ' first two seasons . Some of them have a greater shock onThe Rings of Power ’s central tale than others , ca-ca them more memorable in the long run .

Even the nonaged villains introduced inThe Rings of Powerprove challenging though , with theLord of the Ringsseries evengoing so far as to humanize the Orcs . This may deviate from J.R.R. Tolkien ’s portrait of such material body , but it ’s interesting to see how the fancy series depicts Middle - earth ’s biggest threats and their motivations . While there ’s no enquiry about whom the serial ' substantial villain is , the others supply necessary layers to the world , fleshing it out more in full through their quest for things like immortality , retribution , and recognition .

5Kemen

Played By Leon Wadham

The Rings of Power’sKemenresemblesGame of Thrones’Joffrey Baratheon , as he ’s cowardly , eager to take power and regard he has n’t realize , and has few redeeming qualities to speak of . This is precisely what makes him such a right villain , as a few moments on - screen is enough to elicit frustration and chafe in spectator . Kemen fully serves his purpose in theLord of the Ringsshow , as looker are n’t meant to wish him any more than the other characters do . And it ’s near impossible to rule fellow feeling for him after he kill Valandil inThe Rings of Powerseason 2 .

Kemen is a character viewer hump to detest , but he needs more depth to rank higher amongThe Rings of Power ’s antagonist .

This is a twice - butt against sword for Kemen , however , as it proves he ’s doing his problem as a baddie — but it also makes him less compelling than fig like his Church Father or Adar , whose motif palpate less one - dimensional . Kemen is a type viewers bang to detest , but he need more depth to rank high amongThe Rings of Power ’s antagonists . Perhaps plunk deeper into his tense relationship with Ar - Pharazôn and feeling of inadequacy inThe Rings of Powerseason 3would make him more interesting to watch , even if he ’s still unlikable .

4Rhûn’s Dark Wizard

Played By Ciarán Hinds

The Rings of Powerhas yet to reveal much aboutRhûn ’s Dark Wizard , but season 2 does show the baddie in action — andhe ’s manifestly a daunting foeman , much more than someone like Kemen . His power attain him far less well-heeled to dismiss , and the series has only show the peak of the iceberg when it comes to this quality . He ’s clearly someone to be feared , and he has a lot of potential . This is peculiarly true if the suggestion that he ’s one ofTolkien ’s Blue Wizardsproves right .

Sauron will be dish out the Rings of Men in The Rings of Power season 3 and there are some choice suspects as to who will be receive them .

Introducing one of the Blue Wizards would give the Amazon serial publication a chance to dig deeper into these mysterious figures from Tolkien ’s lore . The Rings of Powercould also explore the cult that form around them , which would likely leaven an interesting and insightful storyline . unluckily , while Rhûn ’s Dark Wizard has a mickle of potential , we simply do n’t know enough about thisRings of Powervillain for him to outrank any higher . He has yet to show the complexity that character like Ar - Pharazôn and Adar welfare from , and he has n’t establish anywhere near as restrain or entertaining as Sauron .

3Ar-Pharazôn

Played By Trystan Gravelle

Ar - Pharazôn is almost as thwarting as his son inThe Rings of Powerseasons 1 and 2 , yetit ’s comfortable to see how he seizes power within Númenor so quickly . Unlike Kemen , Pharazôn is clever , and he knows how to pull strings masses . He ’s a convincing politician , and Trystan Gravelle sells the character every time he ’s on - silver screen . Even though viewers can see how hypocritical and self - serve Pharazôn is , he has a magnetic attraction that ’s difficult to refuse . And his motives are clearly flesh out , with his resentment towards the Valar making him all the more interesting .

Ar - Pharazôn was a legendary figure in The Lord of the Rings traditional knowledge , with a whole section of Tolkien ’s The Silmarillion to tell his striking write up .

Ar - Pharazôn is poised to go down as one of the most memorable and believable villainsinThe Rings of Power , and he ’s likely to forget an even hard impression whenthe Fall of Númenoris bring in to the screen . He ’s surely more fascinating and fun to watch than the Orcs , Kemen , and even Rhûn ’s Dark Wizard — though two villains excel him , mostly because they ’re given more clock time and stuff to beam .

2Adar

Played By Joseph Mawle/Sam Hazeldine

Adar is plausibly the most sympatheticRings of Powervillain we ’ve seen so far , as it ’s easy to realise why he despises both Sauron and the Elves . This lieu , which pock him against theLord of the Ringsshow ’s heroes and its main baddie , makes his position one of the most interesting to surface . Adar highlight the lip service that exists even among midway - earth ’s heroes , pushing viewers to question smuggled - and - white depictions of good and iniquity .

It ’s a testament to Adar ’s characterization that he even come close to Tolkien ’s Dark Lord .

Adar ’s backstory and commitment to his " child " make it difficult to dislike him fully , even though many of his actions are unwarranted . Adar ’s complexity make him smooth more than almost any other baddie , and his redemption at theend ofThe Rings of Powerseason 2cements him as one of the show ’s strong antagonists . There ’s only one character that tops him , and that ’s to be expected . After all , Sauron is the most of import villain in theLord of the Ringsshow . That said , it ’s a testament to Adar ’s characterization that he even comes close to Tolkien ’s Dark Lord .

Pharazôn (Trystan Gravelle) in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 3

1Sauron

Played By Charlie Vickers

There ’s only one fictional character who could be the good villain inThe Rings of Power , as the serial orb around Sauron ’s acclivity to power . Fortunately , the Amazon show does n’t disappoint when add Sauron ’s Second Age character to biography , even if it claim some liberties with his introduction in season 1 . Sauron ’s disguise as Halbrand may not be tear from Tolkien ’s source fabric , but it manages to keep thing interesting as Galadriel searches for a scoundrel who is veracious in front of her . It also endears viewers to Charlie Vickers ' character before dropping the heartbreaking disclosure that he ’s not who we think .

Any doubt about Vickers ' portrayal of Sauron is squashed byThe Rings of Powerseason 2 , which masterfully depicts the scoundrel ’s fair kind and his deception of Celebrimbor .

And any incertitude about Vickers ' enactment of Sauron is squashed byThe Rings of Powerseason 2 , which masterfully render the baddie ’s fair form and his deception of Celebrimbor . Vickers ' performance strikes the perfect balance between fearful and magical , and it ’s systematically a joy to watch . Vickers ' baddie also has great chemistry with the other spectacular characters , driving home why Sauron could so easily delude hoi polloi . The Rings of Powerdeserves praise for bringing Sauron ’s 2d Age taradiddle to the screen , regardless of the show ’s other criticisms .
